Folahan and Fanning Transferring From Wagner

Per a tweet from Alex Kline it appears that Naofall Folahan will be transferring from Wagner. The 6’11″ center had seen his playing time diminish as the season went on under Bashir Mason, but he still has the skill to contribute to a Division I program.

The problem is that Folahan only has one season of eligibility remaining. Considering his decline in minutes and offensive rating this season my guess is that he’ll head to a lower division opportunity. Folahan only played 33% of Wagner’s minutes last season, but when he was in the game he had an 11.8% block rate, which would’ve ranked in the Top 20 nationally.

Later this evening Kline added a second transfer from Wagner to the list.

This move isn’t a surprise. Fanning had an excellent start to the season, but a violation of team rules late in the season saw him miss the final seven games of the season after playing only eight minutes at Robert Morris. Fanning was an excellent scorer in high school and being only a freshman it is possible that another Division I program will take a chance on him. While at Wagner he turned the ball over too much, but showed a good scorers mentality and some decent ability shooting the basketball. I’d expect him to find somewhere to play next season.

Update: Addressing the “transfer rumors” as he put it, Cormac Gordon wrote an article today that suggests that Fanning might be heading to Boston University (soon to join the Patriot League) and that Folahan isn’t going to be transferring. Gordon also raised the issue of the Wagner center having only one season of eligibility left.

The good news for Wagner? The Seahawks had a transfer of their own sitting out this season. Former Valparaiso guard Jay Harris should bring some talent to the point guard position. Harris is a good shooter and should fit right into the NEC’s offensive oriented style of play.

It’s that time again. We’ll be tracking all the personnel movement in the NEC and around the New York area this offseason just as we’re watching teams play in postseason tournaments.
