Hofstra jumping into the transfer game

A quick note that it’s interesting to see Hofstra jumping back into the transfer game by signing Shaq Stokes, formerly of Hawaii. The point guard from Coney Island is going to apply for a hardship waiver and try to play immediately. It’d be a nice addition for the Pride and would just make them loaded with transfers trying to figure out how to play together.

For a 5’10″ point guard Stokes had a ridiculously high usage rate at 25.2% during his freshman year at Hawaii. He wasn’t particularly good at offense either, finishing with a 91.8 offensive rating. Basically, he turned the ball over too much, 20.8% of his possessions. There were some positives, for instance, Stokes managed to get to the free throw line with regularity and shoot 77.5% when he was there.

There’s also the fact that Hofstra’s offense just wasn’t very good last season and the two guys that were productive graduated. Stokes’ offensive rating during his freshman season in the WAC was better than Shemiye McLendon or Stevie Mejia’s for Hofstra last season. This is an upgrade for Hofstra, I’m just not sure how big of one.
